2007 category sales breakdown: U.S. Consumer sales of all sports nutrition/energy/weight-loss products across the Rx, OTC and supplement sectors grew 6% to $7.6 billion in 2007. Once again, dietary supplements accounted for the bulk (87%) of sales in this category, with sales totaling $6.7 billion last year. Meal replacement and sports nutrition supplements accounted for the most dollars added to the category, with each contributing more than $2 billion in 2007. Homeopathic remedies and super fruits also provided mega fuel for the category, with each climbing into double-digit growth territory in 2007.
