San Francisco firm launches innovative products amid little competition in the functional food and beverage category
Like the estimated 70 million Americans with chronic sleep disorders, such as insomnia or intermittent sleep-related problems, Dreamerz Co-Founder Amanda Steele has always had a hard time getting a full night of zzz's. So when the food and beverage incubator Brand New Brands offered Steele the opportunity to launch a company geared toward helping people sleep better, she jumped at the chance. “I've always had issues being a night owl,” said Steele. “My whole life I've tended to stay up until 1 a.m. and then struggle to get up the next day. I could really relate to what Dreamerz is all about.”
Launched in April 2007, Dreamerz makes all-natural, non-addictive food-based sleep aids for individuals with mild to moderate sleep issues. The San Francisco-based company's first products included a line of Soothing Dairy sleep aids, which contain a patented low dose (0.3 mg) of melatonin, a naturally occurring hormone that helps with sleep, and Lactium, a proprietary milk protein that has been clinically proven to aid with relaxation and stress reduction.
